Before you consider purchasing any new AV equipment, survey the space where you currently screen films
Does your area have large windows that let in a lot of light? Beautifully stained wooden floors that ricochet sound waves? Blinky electrical equipment? Even if you were to buy the nicest speaker system and projector, these things would stand in the way of you and a fantastic home theater experience.
One way you can create a more sound proof environment is to use loosely packed R11, which can really help keep the sound of movie explosions from rocking the rest of your home. It won't block the noise completely, though. You'll need to add additional sound barriers after you pre-wire the room and we love to do that with the acoustic paneling, soundproofing foam, or something similar.
